untitled

This is the second story that I wrote for the fanzine. Out of all the Early Edition stories I've written, this is the one closest to my heart. And as such am wary of posting it in its entirety on the internet.

The fanzine can be purchased through the Early Edition Convention website and it will include this story in its entirety along with 12 other Early Edition fanfiction stories.

"What the Cat Dragged In" is approximately 260 pages of intrigue, mystery, humor, angst, insight, UST, RST, stuff blowing up, and your favorite EE characters -- plus a few new faces.

Cost is $22 and S&H is free.

Departures and Arrivals

~~Someone's always in a hurry to get someplace.

Some arrive at their destination a little late, others depart a little
early. You never know what your schedule will be. ~~

*~*~*~*
Chuck took his bags from the limo driver and made his way to the plane.
Still dressed in his tux, he climbed the steps into the jet.

In the middle of the Emmy Awards, Chuck had been notified that he had an
urgent call from Marissa. He had excused himself from the gala and took
the call.

He returned to his colleagues a few minutes later, informing them that
he was going out of town. His friends needed him.

His co-workers thought he was nuts for leaving before they found out if
their show had won.
There was no way Chuck could explain to these people the true value of
friendship, so he didn't waste the time. His real friends needed him and
that was more important than some prestigious award.

He took off his jacket and struggled with the tie before tossing them
across the arm of the chair, then settled himself into the leather seat.
He snapped his seat belt shut and took a deep breath. He let it out
slowly as he gazed out the window at the twinkling lights of the city.

He hadn't wasted any time after he had received Marissa's call. In the
limo, on the way to his house, he'd called the airport and told them to
have the jet fueled and ready, so when he arrived he could leave
immediately.

He'd quickly gathered what he would need and continued on to the
airport.

So, here he was, a mere hour later, ready to make the flight back east.
For once, he was truly grateful for the luxuries his success afforded
him. He no longer had to stand in lines at airports and be frustrated by
delays. But now he had limited time to get his thoughts together. He was having a hard time wrapping his mind around the news Marissa had
relayed.

Chuck closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the seat as the
plane took off. Once it had leveled off, he got up and fixed himself a
scotch and soda from the mini bar.

When he returned to his seat, he took a long swallow before he placed
his drink on the table in front of him and once again gazed out into the
darkness.

How long had he been friends with Gary? He thought back and decided that
it had been since second grade, when Gary picked him to be on his
kickball team.

That was the first time Chuck had been picked first. Gary smiled as
everyone else snickered, wondering why he would pick the scrawny kid to
be on his team.

Chuck couldn't help but smile as he remembered that day. He was certain
he had grown 2 feet in that instant. His confidence soared and as a
result he had scored the first goal. Gary and the rest of the team had
cheered and patted him on the back. For the first time he was one of the
guys.

That was still one of the best moments of his life.
